Good friends and a good eye behind the lens: That’s all that’s needed to create unique images. But it certainly helps if you can also get after-hours access for a shoot at Wakeparadise Milano.

During the summer of 2021 six friends—including some of Italy’s best riders—got the chance to let their creativity run free after the doors closed at this popular spot near Milan. They were joined by photographer and wakeskater Maurizio Marassi.

The reason for the session was a simple one: Mauri wanted to test his new flash for the first time at night. How did it work out? See for yourself.

Things got started around 10:00PM with some pizza.

The first act began by installing the handrail in a new location. Around midnight it was time to get started, with Mauri’s strobe illuminating the lake in brief flashes of light. Timing was the main challenge, since the photographer had to capture the exact right moment with his flash. But it looks like it worked out!

As the night progressed and the clock already read 2:00AM, the West Rock Custom was up next. This as well was moved into a prime location where the flash setup was already in place.

At this point the crew decided to take a quick power nap, then continue shooting in the pre-dawn hours. As the new day slowly dawned, the moment the crew had been waiting for arrived.

It was Riccardo who set the high-water mark of the session and closed things out with a Nuclear Backroll Blind. Big ups to the whole squad—you helped create some incredible photos!

Did the crew still have the energy to keep riding when the sun was up? We’re not sure, but they definitely had plenty of opportunities. After all, this lake near the Milan airport is home to countless UNIT features, and since 2019, the second UNIT Surf Pool. That makes Wakeparadise Milano a true UNIT paradise!
